Cruise ships in detail
MSC moved first, adding smart glasses to its prohibited-items language for public areas in December 2025 — consistent, Royal Caribbean Blog notes, with the line's strictness about filming on board. Royal Caribbean updated its prohibited-items list in early 2026, and the notice shown in its app is broader than the list: “Smart glasses with video and audio recording capabilities are not permitted onboard,” with confiscation authorized. In practice, per Royal Caribbean Blog: cabins, non-public spaces and shore are fine; public areas are not; and if your smart glasses are your prescription glasses, the line's list tells you to bring a non-smart backup pair. Android Central's headline on MSC covers Xreal display glasses too — it is not only camera pairs.
Courts
New York's ban, effective July 20, 2026, is the broadest: every state, county, city, town and village court, cameras and microphones, surrender at the door (Wikipedia, citing the court system). That language covers the camera-free Echo Frames and Even G2 as well as every Meta pair. England and Wales followed in August 2026 under existing rules against recording in court. Expect other jurisdictions to copy the New York wording.
Workplaces, schools, gyms
We have not found published, citable policies for specific employers, school districts or gym chains, so none are in the table — not because they do not exist, but because we will not list a rule we cannot read. Assume any place that already bans phone cameras (locker rooms, secure facilities, exam rooms) bans these, and ask.
Does a prescription get you an exception?
Not in any rule we have read. Royal Caribbean addresses it directly by telling prescription wearers to bring a backup pair; the New York court rule requires surrender regardless. If your only glasses are smart glasses, that is a practical problem worth solving before a trip — the prescription guide covers ordering a second pair of plain lenses.
