Ray-Ban Meta, explained one decision at a time

The family, in one paragraph

“Ray-Ban Meta” is now five different things. Gen 1 (2023) is the original: 12 MP stills, 1080p video, a battery reviewers ran down in an afternoon, still sold. Gen 2 (September 2025) keeps the sensor, adds 3K/30 and 1080p/60 video, stabilization and nearly double the battery, in the Wayfarer, Skyler and Headliner shapes. Blayzer and Scriber Optics (March 2026) are the prescription-first frames with adjustable nose pads and temples. Meta Ray-Ban Display (2025) adds a screen in the right lens and a wrist band. And since June 2026 there are Meta Glasses — Adventurer, Fury, Starfire — which are the Gen 2 hardware without the Ray-Ban name, for less. This hub takes each of those apart. If you only read one page, read the Gen 2 review; if you already know you want Gen 2, go straight to which frame.

Decide in this order

1. Generation. Gen 1 vs Gen 2 is a battery and video decision; Meta Glasses vs Ray-Ban Meta is a brand-name and prescription-range decision, and the Meta Adventurer review covers the own-brand frame on its own terms — same camera and battery, two sizes, adjustable temple tips, a lower price; Gen 2 vs Display is a “do you want a screen” decision.
2. Frame and size. Wayfarer comes in Standard and Large, Headliner in High and Low bridge, Skyler in one size. The size guide has the millimeters and Standard vs Large the six-millimeter question.
3. Lenses. Clear, sun, polarized, Transitions, and whether your prescription goes in — and if it is strong, whether the Optics frames are the better home for it.

What decides price

The lens, mostly. Android Central's Gen 2 review lists the base price at $379 with polarized at +$30 and Transitions at +$80 (September 2025 launch pricing; today's price is on the retailer). A prescription adds an optician's charge on top. The Optics frames start $120 higher for the fit hardware; the Display is roughly double for the screen and the band. Gen 1 is the cheap way in and Meta Glasses are the cheap way to Gen 2 performance. What you never pay extra for is the camera or the AI — those are identical from the $299 Adventurer to the $499 Blayzer.

The mistake buyers make

Trusting “up to 8 hours.” The battery page shows the number reviewers actually got — about five hours with heavy music, video and AI use, per Android Central — and why the case matters more than the headline figure. The second mistake is buying a Standard Wayfarer online with a wide head; the Large exists for a reason and the big-heads roundup explains it. The third is reading “water resistant” as waterproof: every Ray-Ban Meta is rated IPX4, which is rain and splashes and nothing submerged, and what IPX4 covers ends at the warranty clause that excludes liquid damage.
