Why a whole hub for glasses without a camera

Because the camera is the part of smart glasses that causes the arguments. In July 2026 New York banned camera and microphone eyewear from every state court; England and Wales followed in August; gyms, schools, cruise lines and workplaces set their own rules; and a March 2026 class action alleges that footage from Meta's glasses was reviewed by human contractors. Plenty of people want the useful part — music, calls, an assistant, a discreet display — without any of that. This hub is for them. How the category divides

Audio-only. Amazon's Echo Frames: open-ear speakers, Alexa, six hours of music, no camera, no display, sold in five frame shapes with prescription-ready lenses. The Echo Frames review is the page. What decides price

Whether there is a display. Echo Frames launched at $269.99 and are often discounted; the G2 launched at $599 plus $249 for its optional ring. In between sit the camera pairs — which is the honest complication: a Ray-Ban Meta Skyler with the camera you never use costs about the same as Echo Frames and has better speakers by most accounts. The mistake buyers make

Expecting earbud sound. Open-ear speakers sit above your ear and leak; Tom's Guide could hear Echo Frames from the next desk at half volume. That is the trade for hearing traffic and conversation. The second mistake is buying a camera pair “and just not using the camera” for a job that bans cameras — a security desk sees the lens, not your intentions. If the venue is the reason, buy the pair with no lens.
