1. Lenses
Ray-Ban has the longest list — eight Transitions colors, three polarized tints, clear and sun — and every one takes a prescription. Oakley has Prizm, which Ray-Ban cannot offer: tuned tints (Road, Golf, Deep Water) that Android Central's HSTN reviewer found “work exceptionally well in the sun” and worth the premium “for folks who spend a lot of time outside.” The HSTN also does clear and Transitions. The Vanguard does not: sun lenses only, no prescription option at launch (Android Central), and since spring 2026 a Prizm Transitions Ember option (Meta newsroom). 2. Frame and sizes
Ray-Ban: three shapes, and the Wayfarer in two sizes (131 / 137 mm across). HSTN: one shape, one size at 133 mm — between the two Wayfarers — with straight temples that Android Central found stayed on less well than the Ray-Ban's curved ones during burpees and head-tilting sports. Vanguard: one wrap shape with a built-in nose guard that the same publication's reviewer said never slipped across a hundred-plus miles. Weights: about 49 g HSTN, 52 g Ray-Ban Gen 2, 66 g Vanguard.
3. Camera
Ray-Ban Gen 2 and HSTN share the sensor, modes and stabilization — Android Central used HSTN footage to preview Gen 2 quality because “they share the same internal hardware.” The Vanguard is the upgrade: 122 degrees against 100, centered over the nose so first-person footage matches your view, a 720p/120 slow-motion mode, hyperlapse, and three stabilization levels (UploadVR). 4. Battery and water
Eight hours rated on Ray-Ban and HSTN; about nine on the Vanguard, with a 36-hour case and IP67 dust and water resistance (UploadVR, Wareable). The Ray-Ban and HSTN carry what Android Central calls a “minor water and dust resistance rating” — splash-safe, not rain-safe. Meta warns even the IP67 Vanguard is not for swimming.
5. Speakers
Meta rates the Vanguard's speakers six decibels louder than its other glasses (UploadVR); Android Central found calls clear in wind through the five-mic array. Ray-Ban and HSTN share the standard open-ear setup, which every reviewer rates as fine and every reviewer notes leaks a little.
6. Price
At launch: Ray-Ban Gen 2 $379, HSTN $399 (Android Central: the cheapest Ray-Ban is $20 cheaper than HSTN), Vanguard $499. Prizm and Transitions add to the Oakley prices; polarized and Transitions add to the Ray-Ban. Those are dated figures — every button opens the live listing.
