What Oakley adds
Two things. The frame: rounded lenses, straight temples with pointed tips and an angular nose bridge, in one size that sits between the two Wayfarers — a genuine third option for the head the Standard pinches and the Large swims on. And Prizm: Oakley's tuned lens tints, which Android Central's reviewer found “block out a significant portion of light and add a vibrant hue to your world” and rated worth the premium for outdoor people. Prizm Dark Golf and a Light Curry frame with Clear-to-Brown Transitions were added in March 2026 (Meta newsroom).
What Oakley takes away
Choice, mostly. One frame style versus Ray-Ban's three; four colors versus six or seven per Ray-Ban style; one size versus the Wayfarer's two. And a fit caveat that matters for an “athletic” brand: Android Central found the HSTN “don't stay on as well as the Ray-Bans if you tilt your head a lot,” using burpees as the test, and warned that skateboarding-type sports “could easily see your glasses flying off.” The straight temples are the reason. Camera and battery
Android Central used the HSTN to preview Gen 2 video because the hardware is the same: 3K HDR with “more detail, better contrast, and less compression” in good light, weak in dim rooms, and the stabilization that was the biggest upgrade over Ray-Ban Gen 1. The same publication's HSTN battery testing is the basis for its Gen 2 expectations — roughly 60% better real-world life than Gen 1, with capture gaining most. Rated: up to eight hours, about 50 minutes of 1080p recording per charge. Slow-motion and hyperlapse were announced as software updates for the HSTN alongside the Gen 2.
