Blayzer and Scriber Optics: Ray-Ban Meta Built for People Who Actually Need Glasses
Every earlier Ray-Ban Meta was a pair of sunglasses that could take a prescription. The Blayzer and Scriber Optics, launched in March 2026, are the other way around: optical frames an optician can adjust, that happen to have the Gen 2 camera in them. This is what changed, what didn't, and who should pay the $120 premium.

What Meta changed
Three pieces of hardware that ordinary glasses have had forever and Meta's glasses did not: over-extension hinges (the temples flex outward past straight instead of snapping), interchangeable nose pads (so the frame can be raised or lowered on your nose), and optician-adjustable temple tips (Meta newsroom, March 31, 2026). Meta's words: “adaptable to your unique face shape for a tailored fit” and “the most comfortable glasses we've ever designed.” The frames are also slimmer than the Wayfarer, Headliner and Skyler (Gizmodo), which matters for a pair you wear from breakfast to bed.
What Meta did not change
The electronics. Gizmodo: “basically the same AI glasses that the company has been selling, with the same hardware and features, including a 12-megapixel camera, speakers, 8 hours of battery, built-in Meta AI, and computer vision.” No display — these are non-display Gen 2 glasses. The charging case is dark brown rather than the previous light brown.

Who they are for
The all-day prescription wearer. Android Central, reviewing Meta's cheaper 2026 frames, says it plainly: the Meta-brand glasses lack interchangeable nose pads, “so sticking with Ray-Ban Meta Optics is the best bet if you're an all-day prescription glasses wearer.” If you have a strong or complex prescription, a face that off-the-shelf frames never quite fit, or you simply want an optician to be able to do their job, the $120 premium buys that. If you wear contacts, or your prescription is mild and you want sunglasses, it buys nothing you need.

Pre-orders opened March 31, 2026 on Meta.com and Ray-Ban.com; optical retailers in the US and selected international markets from April 14 (Meta newsroom). An optical retailer is the better route for a strong prescription — they can measure and adjust in person, which is the point of the frame.
