What the glasses cannot do
Record long. Three minutes per clip at 3K on the Vanguard (UploadVR) against more than an hour and a half of continuous 4K on a GoPro (GoPro). Record in the dark: every Meta pair is weak at night per every reviewer we cite. Go under water: IP67 is sweat and rain, and Meta says no swimming; a GoPro is rated to 10 meters without a housing. Frame the shot: no viewfinder on any non-Display pair; a GoPro has two screens. And produce footage you would edit into anything long — the resolution and codec are for sharing, not cutting.
What the GoPro cannot do
Be invisible. A GoPro is a camera you mount, aim, start and stop; the glasses are already on and record with a tap while you keep doing the thing. Android Central's Vanguard reviewer: “It's no DJI or Insta360 camera for content creators' sustained, high-res shots, but Vanguard is more natural for everyday folks looking to commemorate events and share moments with friends.” A GoPro also cannot play your music, take a call, read a Garmin stat aloud or answer a question — the glasses do all of that with the camera off.
Privacy, briefly
A GoPro on a chest mount is obviously a camera. Glasses are not, which is why Meta built a recording light with no off switch and why courts and cruise lines are writing them into rules — see where smart glasses are banned. If you are filming other people for anything beyond a personal clip, the GoPro is the socially clearer tool as well as the technically better one.
