Best AI Glasses: The Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 Is Still the One to Buy

AI glasses are the pairs you can talk to and that answer back, and in most cases the pairs with a camera the assistant can see through. The Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer (Gen 2) is the pair to buy for almost everyone: 12 MP stills with 3K/30 video, up to eight hours per charge with 48 more in the case, Meta AI listening on a five-mic array, and 27 frame-and-lens combinations including a Large. Four other pairs beat it on one specific thing each, and this page says which thing.

What makes a pair “AI glasses” and what does not

The term got attached to everything with a Bluetooth chip in it, so here is the line this page uses. AI glasses have an assistant that lives on the glasses, woken by a phrase or a button, that answers out loud through speakers in the temples. Most of them also have a camera, which is the part that matters: an assistant that can see lets you ask about the thing in front of you instead of describing it. A pair of audio sunglasses that forwards “Hey Siri” to your phone is not AI glasses by that test. It is a speaker you wear, and we rank those on best audio glasses instead.

Four of the five pairs below pass the test with a camera. The fifth, the Solos AirGo A5, passes without one and is here because it is the only pair that lets you choose which assistant answers.

Android Central's Gen 2 and HSTN spec tables, Android Central's Meta Glasses specs, Solos' own AirGo A5 product page, and Android Central's Display vs Gen 2 comparison. Launch prices are dated context, not today's price.

Why the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 wins

Because it is the only pair here with no obvious weakness for a first-time buyer. The camera is the same 12 MP sensor Meta has shipped since 2023, but Gen 2 added 3K/30 video and a 1080p/60 mode along with the stabilization that debuted on the Oakley HSTN. Meta rates it at up to eight hours per charge, nearly double Gen 1, and the case holds about 48 more, with 50% back in 20 minutes. It runs Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 over 32 GB of storage, which Android Central puts at roughly 500 photos or 100 thirty-second clips.

The reason it stays first, though, is fit and lenses. Three styles (Wayfarer, Skyler, Headliner), a Large Wayfarer at 137 mm hinge to hinge, High- and Low-bridge options, and clear, polarized or Transitions lenses with a prescription path through Meta or Ray-Ban. No other AI pair gives you that many ways to make the thing actually sit on your face, which is the single biggest reason people stop wearing smart glasses. The honest cost: about 52 grams, a frame reviewers call thick, and low-light video that is still weak.

The three that beat it on one thing each

Oakley Meta HSTN is the same silicon in an Oakley frame, and Android Central's verdict on choosing between them is that it is “all down to style.” What you actually gain is the lens run: Prizm Ruby, Prizm Deep Water polarized, Prizm Black polarized, Prizm Dark Golf added in March 2026, plus a one-size 133 mm front that lands between the two Wayfarers. What you lose is grip. Android Central found the straight temples stay on less well than the Ray-Bans during head-down, head-tilting exercise.

Meta Adventurer is the cheapest honest way in. It launched at $299 with the same 12 MP / 3K camera, eight hours rated, a 40-hour folding case, a customizable action button and adjustable temple tips that the Ray-Ban Gen 2 does not have. The catch is prescriptions: Android Central puts the range at -6.00 to +2.25, which rules it out for plenty of people. Read the prescription guide before you order one.

Meta Ray-Ban Display is the only pair here with a screen, and the only one you cannot buy online: Meta sells it in person after a demo and a fitting. The 20-degree display in the right lens runs a camera viewfinder with zoom, pedestrian navigation, live captions and messages, and the Neural Band on your wrist reads muscle signals so you can reply by writing on a table. It also records worse video than the pair that costs less than half as much.

The camera-free entry: Solos AirGo A5

Everything else on this page answers with Meta AI, because Meta AI only runs on Meta hardware. The Solos AirGo A5 breaks that: “Hey Solos” reaches ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or DeepSeek through the Solos app, with live one-to-one translation and swappable frame fronts, from $249 on Solos' own store. It has no camera, so it cannot tell you what is in front of you or read a menu, which needs the camera-equipped AirGo V2, and Solos publishes neither a battery figure nor a weight for the A5. In a category where both decide whether you keep wearing the thing, that is a real gap.

What we left off, and why

  • Audio-only frames with a wake word. Echo Frames, JBL Soundgear Frames and the Lucyd Lyte are good products, and they are on best audio glasses, but the assistant is on your phone rather than on the glasses and none of them can see.
  • Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 and Ray-Ban Meta Audio. Both are listed and in stock on Amazon as of October 16, 2026, and both now have their own review on this site — but neither displaces the Gen 2 here. Gen 3 is the same 12 MP camera for $70 more at launch, and Gizmodo found its headline six-mic noise reduction disappointing in testing; the camera-free Audio pair cannot help anyone who wants an assistant that can see. See the Gen 3 review, the Audio review and Gen 2 vs Gen 3.
  • Unbranded “AI glasses” marketplace listings. Same bar as the rest of the site: a named maker, a published spec sheet, and either a named review or a manufacturer spec page. Most fail all three.

If you are here partly to work out what the label even means, that is a fair question: there is no standard behind it. Smart glasses vs AI glasses explains where the name came from and which capability actually divides the category.

Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer (Gen 2)

Ray-Ban Meta

The default smart glasses: a 12 MP camera with 3K/30 or 1080p/60 video, up to 8 hours per charge with 48 more in the case, 27 frame-and-lens combinations, and a Large size for wider heads.

Best for
Most people buying their first (or second) pair of AI glasses

#1 and the default AI pair. 12 MP stills, 3K/30 and 1080p/60 video with Gen 2 stabilization, up to eight hours per charge plus about 48 in the case, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3 and 32 GB. Three styles, a Large Wayfarer, High and Low bridges, clear, polarized or Transitions lenses and a prescription path. About 52 grams and weak low-light video are the honest costs.

Pros

  • 3K video at 30 fps plus a 1080p/60 mode, with the stabilization introduced on Oakley Meta HSTN (Android Central)
  • Meta rates up to 8 hours per charge — nearly double Gen 1 — and the case adds about 48 hours; 50% in 20 minutes
  • Standard and Large frame sizes; clear, polarized and Transitions lenses; prescription available through Meta or Ray-Ban
  • Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, 32 GB (about 500 photos or 100 30-second clips)

Cons

  • About 52 g — reviewers call the frames thick and heavy for all-day wear
  • Prescription range is narrower than a regular Ray-Ban and is quoted differently by sources (see the prescription guide)
  • Camera sensor is unchanged from Gen 1; low-light video is still weak in named reviews

Oakley Meta HSTN

Oakley Meta

Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 internals in an Oakley frame: identical 3K camera, 8-hour battery and five-mic array, with Prizm lens options you can't get on a Ray-Ban and a one-size fit that sits between the Wayfarer Standard and Large.

Best for
People who want Gen 2 performance with Oakley styling and Prizm sun lenses

#2 if you want the Oakley. Identical hardware to the Gen 2 — Android Central says the choice is “all down to style” — with Prizm lens options Ray-Ban does not offer, 49 g, a 133 mm front and 145 mm temples. Straight temples grip less well in head-down sport, and there is one frame shape.

Pros

  • Same hardware, specs and features as Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) — Android Central calls the choice 'all down to style'
  • Lens run: clear, Transitions gray or amethyst, Prizm Ruby, Prizm Deep Water polarized, Prizm Black polarized; Prizm Dark Golf added March 2026
  • 49 g, 133 mm hinge to hinge, 49 mm lenses, 145 mm temples (Tom's Guide) — one size that fits between the two Wayfarers
  • Prescription lenses and tints available

Cons

  • Straight temples — Android Central found they stay on less well than the Ray-Bans during burpees and head-tilting sports
  • One frame style and four colors versus Ray-Ban's three styles
  • Launched $20 above the cheapest Ray-Ban Gen 2

Pick 03 · Camera AI glasses · REF BES-03

Meta Adventurer

Meta

Meta's own-brand rectangular frame: the same 12 MP / 3K camera and 8-hour battery as Gen 2 but with a 40-hour case, an extra action button, adjustable temple tips and a Large size — for $80 less at launch. The prescription range is narrower.

Best for
Anyone who wants Gen 2 performance without paying for the Ray-Ban name

#3 and the cheapest way in. $299 at launch for the same 12 MP / 3K camera, eight hours rated plus a 40-hour folding case, an action button, adjustable temple tips and over-extension hinges, in Standard and Large. The -6.00 to +2.25 prescription range is the reason it is not higher.

Pros

  • 8 hours rated plus 40 hours in the folding case; Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3 (9to5Google, Android Central)
  • Customizable action button, adjustable temple tips and over-extension hinges the Ray-Ban Gen 2 lacks
  • Thinnest Meta frame yet, in Linen, Merlot, Classic Black and Classic Tortoise; sun, polarized, Transitions or clear lenses
  • Listed on Amazon

Cons

  • Prescription range is only -6.00 to +2.25 (Android Central) — Ray-Ban Gen 2 and Oakley HSTN go wider
  • No interchangeable nose pads; Android Central found the weight noticeable after about half an hour

Solos AirGo A5

Solos

The camera-free AI frame that is not locked to one assistant: 'Hey Solos' reaches ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and DeepSeek through the Solos app, with live one-to-one translation, stereo open-ear speakers and swappable frame fronts — from $249.

Best for
Anyone who wants hands-free AI and translation without a camera on their face or Meta's ecosystem

#4 and the only pair not locked to one assistant. “Hey Solos” reaches ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or DeepSeek, with live one-to-one translation, swappable SmartHinge fronts and custom prescription lenses, from $249. No camera, no published battery figure and no published weight.

Pros

  • Swap the AI engine instead of being locked to one — SolosChat reaches ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and DeepSeek (Android Central)
  • SolosTranslate handles live one-to-one translation, and Solos' own listings put translation in the product name
  • SmartHinge lets you swap frame fronts (and, on the A5, upgrade older AirGo 3 fronts with an A5 temple kit); prescription lenses available
  • No camera and no recording light — welcome where camera glasses are not, and the A5 is listed on Amazon

Cons

  • Solos does not publish battery life or weight on the A5 product page, and we found no named lab review of either
  • No camera, so none of the 'what am I looking at' AI that Meta glasses do — text translation of a menu needs the camera-equipped AirGo V2 ($299)
  • Smaller company, smaller support footprint: a one-year warranty and a 14-day return window (Solos)
  • Price depends heavily on the frame front and lens you pick; the cheapest configurations are the plainest

Meta Ray-Ban Display (with Neural Band)

Meta

The only Meta glasses with a screen: a 20-degree monocular display in the right lens, a wrist Neural Band for gesture control, a camera viewfinder, live captions and navigation — sold in-store after a fitting, with prescriptions from -4.00 to +4.00 at extra cost.

Best for
Early adopters who want messages, navigation and captions in the lens and will accept the price and the thicker frame

#5 for the early adopter only. A 20-degree monocular display in the right lens, a camera viewfinder with zoom, pedestrian navigation, live captions, and the Neural Band for gesture and handwriting input. $799 at launch, $999 with prescription lenses, sold after an in-store fitting, and its video tops out below the Gen 2's.

Pros

  • In-lens display runs a camera viewfinder with zoom, turn-by-turn pedestrian navigation, live captions and messaging (Android Central)
  • Neural Band reads wrist-muscle signals so you can reply by 'writing' on a table — Neural Handwriting rolled out spring 2026 (Meta newsroom)
  • Case adds about 30 hours; 32 GB holds about 1,000 photos

Cons

  • Video tops out at 1440 × 1920 at 30 fps — the cheaper Gen 2 records 3K/30 and 1080p/60
  • Two colorways, Transitions lenses only, and lenses cannot be swapped once fused to the display
  • Sold in person after a demo and fitting; not on Amazon (reference link only)

Buying guide

How to choose between them in one minute

You want one pair that does everything well — Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2, in the Large if standard Wayfarers pinch. You want to spend as little as possible — Meta Adventurer at $299, as long as your prescription is inside -6.00 to +2.25. You want Prizm lenses or the Oakley look — HSTN. You cannot have a camera — Solos AirGo A5. You want text in your field of view — Meta Ray-Ban Display, or step sideways to the camera-free display pairs on cheapest smart glasses with a display.

The three things buyers regret, in order

  1. Fit. A pair that pinches or slides gets left in a drawer. Measure your current glasses hinge to hinge and read the Ray-Ban Meta sizes guide before you pick a style.
  2. Battery under real use. Eight hours is a rating for moderate use; recording and livestreaming eat it much faster, and the battery comparison has the drain rates reviewers measured.
  3. Expecting a camera upgrade. Every Meta pair uses the same 12 MP sensor, and low-light video is weak on all of them. If image quality is the point, read camera quality explained first.

What an AI pair actually does all day

In practice the assistant gets used for small things: a question with your hands full, a translation of a sign, a reminder, a message read out while you walk, a photo you would have missed digging a phone out. The demos are the least representative part of the category. If you are weighing whether any of it is worth $300 or more, the honest version is on are smart glasses worth it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What are the best AI glasses right now?

The Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer (Gen 2) for most people: a 12 MP camera with 3K/30 video, up to eight hours per charge plus about 48 in the case, Meta AI on a five-mic array, and the widest run of frames, sizes and lens options of any AI pair. The Meta Adventurer is the cheaper version of nearly the same thing at a $299 launch price.

What is the difference between AI glasses and smart glasses?

“Smart glasses” covers everything with electronics in the temples, including audio-only sunglasses and camera-only recording glasses. “AI glasses” is the subset with an assistant on the glasses themselves, usually with a camera it can see through. Every pair on this page is both; plenty of smart glasses are not AI glasses.

Are there AI glasses without a camera?

Yes. The Solos AirGo A5 runs ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or DeepSeek with no camera at all, and the Halliday G2 and Even Realities G2 put AI answers in a lens display instead. The trade is that no camera means no answers about what is in front of you.

Do AI glasses work without a phone?

Not for the AI. Every pair here pairs to a phone app — Meta AI, Solos or Vuzix Connect — and the phone provides the connection the assistant needs. The glasses keep working as speakers and a camera offline, and the footage syncs later.

Which AI glasses have the longest battery life?

Of the camera pairs here, the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 and Meta Adventurer are both rated up to eight hours, with 48 and 40 hours in the case respectively. Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 is rated up to nine with a 50-hour case, and Gizmodo measured 100% to 85% after an hour of music at 60% volume. The camera-free Ray-Ban Meta Audio beats all of them at 12 rated hours.
